A multi-millionaire property developer gave a struggling single mother a home of her own for free after growing up in similar circumstances. Marco Robinson, 49, is worth £25 million, and bought a three bedroom flat in Preston, Lancashire for the sole purpose of giving it away to someone in need. Around 8,000 people applied, with Marco eventually deciding to hand the flat over to 18-year-old Holly, who had described being 'stuck in the bottom of the pit', unable to get out.

A multi-millionaire property developer who slept rough as a child gave a struggling single mother a home of her own for free.

Marco Robinson, 49, who is now worth £25 million, bought a three-bedroom flat in Preston, Lancashire for the sole purpose of giving it away to someone in need of a home.

The businessman, who appeared on Channel 4's Get a House for Free on Tuesday night, met with three groups of people - a woman losing her eyesight, a group of Syrian refugees and a teenage mum - and decided to help all of them with their living situations.

But it was an emotional Holly, 18, who was told the flat was being transferred into her name, after she showed Marco the mould-covered flat she shared with her baby.

1. Teenage mum Holly was stunned to learn the three-bed flat would be put into her own name.

2. Millionaire Marco, seen on the right, wanted to help someone in difficult circumstances.

'I've dreamed about this for a long time, for years and years to give somebody something of this magnitude.'

Eight thousand people applied to move into the flat, and Marco eventually managed to whittle his shortlist down to just three people.

He met with partially-sighted Jo, and Syrian refugee Mahmood and his two sons, but finally made the decision to present the flat to Holly.

The teenage mum told how she had fallen pregnant by mistake, when medicine she was taking stopped her contraceptive pill from working.

The flat she lived in had no bath for her to wash her daughter Bethany, and the shower walls had mould on, which was causing the baby to cough.

Holly said: 'I am stuck in the bottom of the pit and I can't climb out. No one's giving me a ladder.'

She had planned to go to college to study journalism before becoming pregnant but was struggling to afford her flat, and lived too far away from her mum to rely on her help with childcare.

Marco also gave Jo a deposit to help her buy her own home, and gave Mahmood and his family accommodation to live in while they wait to be granted asylum.

He said he decided to give Holly the house because he didn't want her baby to grow up in the same way he had done.

Marco said: 'I want you and Bethany to have a solid place to live. A home. I want you to get out there and better yourself. You'll be able to go to college. This property Is yours holly. It's in your name, its all yours.'

Holly was clearly overwhelmed and began to cry, telling Marco: 'You're going to change my life.'

She added: 'There’s no words for this. I’m so happy not just for my sake but for Bethany so I can give her a future I can give her stability.'

3. Holly declares the bedroom perfect for her baby Beth, noting the space for a cot and toys.

4. The spacious apartment in Preston is a far cry from the mould-infested flat Holly is living in.

5. The property tycoon said he had always intended to give someone a home for free after growing up in difficult circumstances with his mother, including sleeping on park benches.
