A woman, whose husband absconded when she gave birth to triplets, has appealed to government and individuals to come to her rescue. Mrs Queen Udekwe, 35, a food vendor, had previously given birth to a set of twins. Her husband, Mr. Matthew Udekwe, is a tricycle (Keke NAPEP) operator. ADVERTISING inRead invented by Teads Speaking with journalists in Benin yesterday, she said that her husband, Mr. Matthew Udekwe, from Enugu State, took to his heels when she gave birth to triplets nine months ago. Meanwhile, an Ibadan-based businessman, Sakirudeen Adeleke, yesterday, asked a Mapo customary court in Ibadan to confirm him as the biological father of a baby delivered by his wife, Saidat. He told the court that Saidat gave birth to the baby while living with her lover, one Maroof Azeez. On the runaway father of five, his wife, Mrs Udekwe, who took her case to the secretariat of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Benin, said that she was looking unto public-spirited individuals and government for help. According to her, “my husband abandoned me at the hospital immediately he heard that I had given birth to triplets on April 26, 2016. I already have a set of twins before giving birth to triplets. “I see the children as gifts of joy and God’s blessing, until my husband absconded. I am presently finding it extremely difficult to feed the babies, not to mention clothing them.” She said she needed immediate assistance to save the babies.

Please, come back—She begs

Udekwe appealed to her run-away husband to return home so that they could take care of the children. She recalled that when her husband discovered through scan that they were triplets, he vowed that he would never be around to see the children. She said: “My husband rides Keke NAPEP. I used to hawk cooked food with wheelbarrow. But since I gave birth, I could not continue.” Mrs Udekwe is from Ogua in the Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, while her husband is from Umunokpa in Enugu State. They have been married for six years. ‘This child is mine’ In Ibadan, Sakirudeen told the court that Saidat had moved out of his home with a two-month-old pregnancy, adding “Saidat reappeared about 13 months after she left my home with the baby; I welcomed both mother and baby back. “I have since renamed the child; I don’t want a situation where her concubine will suddenly decide to claim the child. I have no plans to divorce her, but Saidat needs to confirm before this honourable court that the baby is mine.” Saidat, who did not dispute the allegation levelled against her, confirmed that Azeez was her lover. She said: “It is true that I moved in and lived with Azeez for about 13 months, during which I delivered the baby. I was already carrying a two-month-old pregnancy for Sakirudeen before I left his home. “However, Azeez did the naming ceremony and all the other rites required of a father and husband. During the period of my stay in his home, we regularly had intercourse.” Azeez was not in court to say his side of the story. The President of the court, Mr. Ademola Odunade, asked the couple to produce more evidence to support their claims and adjourned till March 2.
